This is my very first trip report (wish me luck)
Got up yesterday at 0430 to be in Parowan by 7. Didn't have anything at all ready to go, but we made it in time.
Got to the trail head at 7:30 and were hiking by 7:45. 15 minutes into the trip, we decided it was definitely worth it to have gotten up so early because the sun wasn't yet beating down on us-It's a real grunt to the top.

The boys, Christopher (9) and Travis (16) did really well. I had thought since Christopher was with us I wouldn't be very last, but he did so well that I still ended up bring up the rear anyway. Oh well. At least I'm comfortable there. I was so pleased to see the boys have a good time. Rappelling was a bit much for them since they've not done it much, but they're both willing to work on it to get more comfortable.
The first of four raps was the wettest. I went down first to belay Thane and Christopher while Kurt rigged them up for a tandem rap. The pix I took from the bottom weren't all that great. (It's hard to belay and take pix at the same time.) But Kurt got some great shots from the top3678936788.36787

Was cold by the time we got out of the canyon. Corry, Christopher and I were all wishing we had brought some warmer clothes, but we were warmed up soon enough.
We got back to Parowan in time for lunch at Hamburger Patty's. Then off to the Twisted Forest. What a beautiful place. Once again I'm disappointed to realize there's such a beautiful place so close to where I've lived my entire life and I've never even heard of it. Where have I been all of my life?
