I was at the Cook Lakes when the helicopter came in to pick up the injured hiker. Our camp was about 200 yards away from the group with the hiker who fell.
We were out fishing when the injured hiker and his companions got back to their camp and didn't know anyone was hurt until the helicopter came in after we were back at our camp. On our way in from fishing we passed the injured hikers' campsite, said hi to a girl who was by the trail and she said hi back and that was it. It was almost dark when the helicopter came in. He flew in quick, right over us and out over the lake, circle around and came back and landed in the drainage right next to the injured hikers camp. We were all impressed with the pilots skills. We didn't know what had happened until two days later when we got out of the Winds and I picked up a Pinedale newspaper and saw this article.
I don't know if there was anything we could have done to help the guy and I hope he's alright. Looks like they got help just in time.
