I plan on bagging Mt Powell and Wilson peak Sept 30-October 2. I've been working on the 13ers for years and decided these 2 look fun. I'll be taking the trail to Red Castle Lake from China Meadows and setting up base camp near Lower Red Castle Lake. If anyone is interested in tagging along let me know. Be warned, this will be a strenuous hike of about 35 miles and about 4,000 feet of elevation gain.

I've already climbed them, so woudn't be interested this time, but if you need information on climbing either, let me know.

Wilson Peak is one of the best peaks in the Uinta Mountains and the views from Mount Powell are great. Have an excellent trip.

I'd like to do some kind of a loop which includes both Powell and Wilson. Where do you suggest that I set up base camp? Should I access the peaks through Smiths Fork Pass or from Upper Red Castle Lake? Is there a route up or down from Powell without having to back track through Smiths Fork Pass? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here are some pics from my trip to Red Castle Lake. I ended up going by myself because most people cannot get away on a Thursday. My wife made me rent a satellite phone to use in case of an emergency.
It was absolutely gorgeous weather and there were no bugs at all. I did have an issue with going a couple of miles on the wrong trail. There was a fork at the trail head and I took the wrong trail. My gps showed me heading the wrong direction so I turned around. Then there was an incident with my boot. I had a blow out. It made for a painful trip. The blisters on my feet were the size of silver dollars. Because of the blown out boot and the blisters, I cut my trip short. I mad it to Lower Red Castle Lake and camped there. Wilson peak was the goal but in the morning I decided to spend some time fishing and then head home. I don't think my boot or my feet could have handled the rocks. There was pain with every foot step but I made it back to my truck. I'm not the best photographer not do I have a very good camera but enjoy the pictures
