Obviously the water needs to be perfectly still and you need a very dark night.
This one looks great is it stacked?

My kids like your picture. Sarah wants to know how long you have to expose the film to capture the star trails?
well this is digital
Stars really start "moving" on anything beyond 30seconds but to get some decent trails you want to run it for at least 10min.

I like the second one better but would of used a brush to increase the exposure on the bottom third on the image to help the reflected trails pop out a bit. I really don't think you did anything wrong but the framing does not really flatter the reflections. The mountain silhouette on the lake blocked out quite a few of your trails (and hence their reflection) and the bit on the right side could have been replaced with more reflected trails. Just my .02
I have only had a go at reflecting trails once and it went pretty well for me. I spent most of the night standing 6" deep in a small pond to make sure I could take advantage of as much water as possible.
Your trails have really come a long way over the last couple of month and are looking really good.
We should get together and shoot sometime. :cool2:
