I look at a lot of photos. That is an amazing photograph. I know this is the amateur question, but what camera did you use to take it? The reason I ask is that there's a lot of noise in the shadow, which suggests a point and shoot, but it also looks like you used a long telephoto lens, which suggests a DSLR. Either way, fantastic and unique.

The shot was taken with a 450d and a 120-400mm lens.
On my calibrated monitor there is no noise at the bottom. On my un-calibrated it is like you say, very noisy.

That is a sweet pic! Since the bottom half is just black you could pretty much just erase all that noise and not even bother with a noise reducer.
