Cirrus2000

Just got back from a couple of days up in Whistler, where Crankworx 2010 is taking place, right through next weekend. My nephew was racing in the Garbonzo DH yesterday, in the amateur under 16 class (came in 4th out of 16). Garbonzo is one sick run - 12km (7.5 miles) and 3400 feet of descent. The top pro male made it in just under 13:23. That works out to an average speed of about 33 mph the whole way down. Damn! My nephew managed 16:27, so about 27 mph - not bad at all. He managed to pass 4 other riders, but unfortunately came off the bike twice (he jokes about the trees really liking him...) Very proud of him, though. This is his first year of actual racing, and he's doing a great job!
I left my camera at home (d'oh!) but here's a link to a recap and bunch of photos from the race. Unfortunately they don't care much about the amateurs, so it's all pro. Great photos, though, and there a video at the bottom of the page, showing helmetcam footage of the entire trip down.
