Hey guys, I don't river raft that often (1x/year if that) and some of my friends want to tube the Weber.

Are there any safe places for it?

Thanks!

I'd suggest from Henefer to Taggart.

WOW thanks justin. Just what I was looking for. I assumed you've done it. I imagine the river is a bit lower these days, which should make the bridge part easy (according to your map). Any other suggestions on what side to take the rapids, or any "scary" spots?

Alex and I canoed it a couple of years back, we still barely fit under the bridge. There really isn't a correct side to take any rapids right now, you'll just see the visible rocks.

Here's the bridge:

This part's pretty cool when you're going parallel with the freeway for a couple hundred yards, in between the columns.

Here's the last and biggest rapid right before the take out

Here's a VERY long video of our canoe trip on it to give you an idea. At 3:59 we'll go under the bridge, and 5:45 we're going under the freeway

I thought I heard something on the news, and then I missed it about some accident around Croydon last weekend. Anybody know or hear anything?

What station or news source did you hear that at? I was scouring the news on Saturday night and didn't find anything.

You are correct - there was a accident there. At the first big rapids section right after the dropin area, there was a family who went just before my friends and I on tubes. We slowed down waiting for my friend's wife to catch up and then finally went down those crazy rapids, and as soon as we passed the rapids, there was a kid (probably in his teens) who fell out during the rapids and struck his head across the rocks. I don't believe he was wearing a lifejacket either (I could be wrong, but I don't remember him specifically).

The kid was laying up against the rock with his head in his hands while still half-way in the river. His brother or friend had his hand around his back and as we passed them on our tubes I asked if everything was okay and if they needed any help. The kid said "everything is fine, thanks though", and everyone in the group didn't seem worried at all; at the very least just shooken up and waiting for the kid to get his composure back or whatever...

BUT.......Not more than 2 minutes of continuing to tube down this fun river, that same guy I talked to, ran up the hill towards the road and was flailing his arms up and down at the passing drivers on I-84! I had this awful feeling when I saw the drivers running down towards the kid holding his head (although, I couldn't see any blood). By this time, we were rounding the corner and didn't witness the rest of it. Although, about 10minutes later, we see the Morgan Ambulance blaring it's lights and sirens towards the kid.

I hope he will make it, whatever he sustained. The rocks at the first rapid area can be a bit dangerous if you distracted or don't have a lifejacket on.

Oh, and Alex, I'll post a TR later with videos and pics, including a pic with the hurt kid as we passed him.

Hope he is ok! I was up there last year watching people make the run. Maybe 1 in 5 was wearing a PFD. Not smart and against the law (as was posted about every 50 feet where you can park next to the river). I did see an article in the paper earlier this year reminding people that they are required on all rivers when floating.

My family went tubing last summer with Barefoot Tubing. We rented tubes and life jackets from them and then they drove us to and from the river. They seemed safety conscious as they gave us a little safety speech before getting on the river....

We had a blast and will be going again next year.

You can google Barefoot Tubing if anyone needs it.
