Going to a family reunion with the in laws in the Uintas toward the end of July. Being a desert rat from Hurricane I have no idea what to do up in the high country of Northern Utah. I have been informed we will be camping/cabins between Kamas and Tabiona and the nearest town is Hanna. I need to find at least one lengthy moderate day hike!!! :naughty:

Ah- the Wolf Creek Pass area. A pretty popular hike that way is the Nobletts Creek/Log Hollow trail. You also have the Soapstone road that links over to the Mirror Lake Highway.

A fun half-day hike just out of Woodland is going to look for fossilized red coral.

Are you into fishing? Going up the MLH to the Crystal Lake TH gets you into some fun areas. Hiking west from there is moderate, and a few of the lakes have greyling in them.

You could always hike around the soapstone area looking for lost mines and caves.

The canyon where the red horned corel is found is called Riley's Canyon. Brink a rock hammer and lots of water, it can get toasty up there, not a whole lot of shade on the exposed faces where the fossils are.

Trial Lake has tons of options. you can go up and over the Notch to Meadow lake and then make it a loop with some cross country back to Trial. It would be a very nice long day hike.

At the top of Upper setting Road you can hike to Lower Single Creek lake. This is all cross country hiking, isolated, and great fishing. Upper Setting Road, past the gate gets rough and high clearance is required (4x4 not needed).

the cool thing about the Uintahs is that once you get off trail or more than 3-4 miles in the herd thins considerably. not many people venture past the first set of lakes.
