Thanks for that update. That trail is where I almost met my demise, and when someone says "ice axe recommended", I can see why. A few years ago we were approaching Emerald Lake from the Timpooneke side. Where there is generally a trail across a slope of loose rock, there was 5-6 feet of snow. At the base of that slope is a cliff, maybe 100 feet high. For some reason I sat down on that snow a few feet from the edge, and immediately slid right off a 6 foot drop off onto a ledge, perhaps 4-5 feet wide. If that ledge wouldn't have been there, I would have fallen to my death or serious injury over the edge of the cliff. That's definitely a place for the inexperienced to be careful.

Just got back from my second backpacking trip up Timp this summer. On the Aspen Grove side there is no flowing water from the talus slope up until you hit Emerald Lake.
