We went through Heaps last Friday and Saturday. Me, my husband, Dad & brother. It was the first time for all of us. Wow, what a canyon. Conditions were perfect - no difficult pothole escapes, lots of swimming. We planned on one long day, but were prepared for two, which was very good thing since we took two full days. (Our poor families at home were a little worried & angry at us for leaving our four children for Grandma to raise...) The hike in from Lava Point is gorgeous, the canyon is unrelenting, dramatic and awe-inspiring, the unplanned night we spent under the stars was actually fairly comfortable and the final raps were one of the coolest experiences of my life. Didn't get a ton of pictures, but it was an experience I won't soon forget, and to get to have it with people I love was especially neat. Perched on the bird's nest, I just felt so lucky to be where I was & get to see the beauty & perspective in Heaps.
cool! Heaps is awesome! thanks for posting.

Awesome! Great tale! Did you hike down West Rim and rappel into Phantom Valley, or did you enter Heaps from Gunsight Slot? Where did you camp out? How did the hike from Upper Emerald Pool feel?:2thumbs:

Sounds excellent! Perhaps one of these days, this might be in the cards for me.
You didn't get a ton of pictures - but did you get any? Would be great to see, if so...

Heaps was incredible, beautiful, dark, and immense-- even with the potholes full, it was much different than any canyon we had ever hiked. The best part for me was sharing it with my wife, dad, and brother.

We entered in from Phantom Valley, and camped on a sandy bank toward the end of the Heaps Narrows-- actually the last camping spot on the left of the canyon before the final section of narrows. The sand was soft and the night was warm enough that we stayed reasonably warm with emergency blankets.
Sounds excellent! Perhaps one of these days, this might be in the cards for me.

We did get a few pictures. Our Pentax Optio W60 doesn't do well with low-light and couldn't focus or take pics very well toward the end of the first day and so we thought it must have been broken... so we stopped trying-- besides, we were cold and trying to hurry along. I'll post a few of the pics that we have below. (Probably easy to do from Picasa. I'm just going to have to figure it out.)

Here are a few pics, trouble is, the best parts of the canyon come at the end and we didn't get pictures of the narrows or the final rap sequence (Wow. That part is cool!)

Getting started at Lave Point. It was a little chilly at 4am, but once we got moving it was great:

Oops. I didn't realize anything was missing. We were all pretty tired when we got back to ZAC to return the stuff.
Update:
Called ZAC and talked to the girl behind the counter and she didn't know about anything about stuff left in a pack. Maybe it was from another group.

Nah, it was the "group from heaps overdue one day, wasn't freaked by it..."; well, they came in about 5 pm, maybe you came in earlier. Rashguard (female), gloves, a pair of socks. May have been a different group.

Hi Emily, what a wonderful way to experience a canyon of this magnitude, with your family! ♥♥♥
I'm happy you had such a great time - it's a spectacular place for sure and I can imagine that going with your family made it that much more special! Thanks for posting (and welcome to Bogley) and thanks for the pix too (kev)! ;)~

Sounds like us, and the check-in time was right. When I called the girl who answered didn't know anything about the stuff. I'll call again tomorrow. Thanks again.

We lack a robust process for Lost and Found items. The real question is if your group is missing a full-body Rashguard in a female size? If so, pop me an address and I will try to mail em back to you. Send to tom@zionadventures.com
Thank you for wearing helmets.
