Yesterday emerged out of the Grand Canyon from my south north south rim solo trip. Bruised but not bloodied I survived it with 40lbs on my back. If I were to do it again it would be during the cooler months. --E

Yah pretty hot. Jumped in the creeks along the trails frequently. Kept a headache the first day combo of the heat and water intoxication. It ended up being 52 miles due to some detours for camping and over 20,000ft of elevation change over 4 days. Oh and the toes are still jacked up and still draining the blisters on the bottom...take a look its scratch and sniff...

No. It's set up wrong and is sitting in direct sunlight, which makes the value meaningless. If anyone is interested in some weather nerd stuff..............

In actuality, there has never been a 130F reading in the Grand Canyon during historical times. In fact there has only been one temperature in the entire world as warm as 130F that can actually be verified.

So far this year, the highest temperature at Phantom Ranch is 110F. The all time record high is 120F. In the past I have compiled the data and you can see it on the webpage below:

http://www.summitpost.org/fact-sheet/213650/grand-canyon-national-park-climate-summary.html

Anyway, on June 20 2010, the official temperature in the bottom of the Grand Canyon was a respectable 103F. Pretty dang hot day for hiking, especially a 50 miler!

True weather nerd stuff. And I tried to point out the 'sitting in direct sunlight' point in Iraq too but when the thermometer that happens to be in direct sunlight says 142 I just don't have the desire to spend the time out there to correct the problem. :knary:
