A friend and I just got back from the Boulder Mountain area. We backpacked into a couple of lakes and stayed 2 nights. :2thumbs:

Nice! Looks like there was still some snow up there in some places. Bet it was cold. :cold: Great looking trip nonetheless. :2thumbs:

Looks like a nice trip. Thanks for posting.

Just curious though:

Did the two "different" cutts come from the same lake, as the image would imply?

possibly a male and a female?

That's what I'm thinking. The DWR isn't a big fan of mixing subspecies anyway, let alone on Boulder. If they came from the same lake, even the same drainage, they'd likely be the same subspecies.

I've caught plenty of the CR cutts and that's what I've noticed. The darn females are usually the ones crowding the hook when the spawn is on and I'm trying for the scarlet.

Yes, the two cutts were from the same lake. I only caught one CR on this lake but a dozen Bonnevilles, and a few tigers to add. I normally don't keep fish unless I'm in the back country...the Bonneville had a very premature egg sack, and the CR had nothing so I'm guessing it was a male.

This was a first to the Boulders for me, but it is love at first site, so if anyone has any pointers as far as which lakes to hit that would be a definite bonus. I was hoping to get into the awesome Brook Trouting there but never hooked up with one. Definitely a place I'd like to begin a tradition.

Here's my pack:

Wow, that is a big pack. I bet that left you pretty sore.

Nice tiger.

All of the cutts were Colorado's. The females stay shiny and the males get the deep red tones when they're spawning, as they have been at this time of year. Also, the males have a bigger mouth (jaw extending behind the eye) and a pointed jaw.

I'm not trying to call you out, but for the sake of accurate info, I feel I need to chime in.

If you really are positive that you caught CR's and Bonnies in the same lake, I'd like to know what, specifically, makes you think that.

Gorgeous fish though.

I'm so jealous of the fish, but not of that huge booty. That pack looks painful.
