I thought I would start a new thread and not add on to Dougs.
We got home from Maui yesterday and I am a lot smarter as far as canyoneering in Maui. Whether it is legal or not I am still not sure. I would like to thank Dave Black for his colorful emails on where the routes are in Maui. I did not do any canyoneering but my wife and I did go to the start of all the routes and check them out. When my wife read Dave's emails about marijuana farmers and tresspassing issues as well as the locals in Wailua dismantling rental cars plus I only brought 200' of rope she decided we needed more rope guns, not only to haul the ropes but to carry the guns.:haha: In the process of researching routes I had the chance to have a conversation with Dave's partner Ken in Maui also.
Right now Maui Adventure is in the process of trying to secure permits with the gov. There are about 4 or 5 routes that I got the beta on. One of the routes would need a car shuttle. Preferably a car that looks like a locals so it's still there when you come back. If you are going to play in Maui as Ken stated you need to bring spools of rope. Several of the good routes have several drops in excess of 220'. Right now Maui is in the worst drought in 30 years. So most of the falls were small trickles. If they had normal flow it would be intense!!!! These routes would be unbelievable canyoneering. As you will see in the pictures we did find one old bolt but Ken said most of the routes they are using natural anchors. At the first drop of each route there was abundant anchors that could of been used. If anyone is headed to Maui and wants the beta send me a pm and Ill send you what I have. All of these pictures were taken on the Maui routes.
P.S. I am struggling with the new picture upload. The pictures do not seem to go on in the order loaded?
Why am I back in this cold weather?:cold::angryfire:
