I'm planning a hike to lake blanch this weekend and was wondering if you all from the Salt Lake Valley have made it up there yet. The Elevation is about 8800 but it's on the north slope so I'm a little worried about hitting a ton of snow.

Thanks in advance

I'd guess there won't be a ton till close to the lake, then you'll hit a bunch. Just my guess from hiking up there in past years. I've been climbing in BCC a bit lately and down low much of the snow is gone... but the basin Blanche is in is North Facing so up high I'm sure a lot of snow is hanging out still. Snowbird still has about a 100 inch base if that gives any indication of what's up high on the north facing slopes still.

There was snow for sure and the lake was frozen over but thats what I was told by other hikers. I got about two thirds the way up and had to come back down because my new $200 Lowa boots tore the crap out of my feet. This is the second time I've tried to break these in but I think they just have inherit problems that give my feet blisters. Back to REI with them.

As for the hike, it was awesome. The stream going up to the lake was a raging torrent and was rising even as we were hiking. Very cool but I'll have to wait till maybe next weekend to give it another try (feet need to heal).
