So I'm not a huge geocacher, but take the GPS with me when I hike, just in case. I try to load up some possible caches on the unit for the areas I frequent. Well we tried to find the geocache located near the fork in the trail that goes in one direction to Dog Lake, and in the other direction to Desolation, but I was having a lot of trouble getting satellites up there. I'm wondering if that was just my GPS acting up or if for some reason, satellites are tough to access in that location.

I'm not sure- I haven't been there. If there is a lot of treecover and branches overhead it would be tough for your GPS to lock onto the satellites.

If I'm going somewhere that I know will have poor reception (trees, slot, etc), I try to turn my GPS on early to get the connection because it's easier to get the connection early and keep it going into the place than it is to establish a connection once I'm there.

I kept it on the entire time, until after I had been dealing with the problem for a few minutes and thought that maybe I should shut the thing off and let it try and find the satellites from scratch. That didn't work either.
