FYI: Tom Jones at REI in Henderson, NV...Yeessss!

FYI: Those of us in Las Vegas, NV; Tom Jones will be gracing the REI at the Green Valley Ranch next Tuesday at 7:00 PM PDT. Space is limited so you will need to register and receive a confirmation. There are only about 20 spots left. I, for one, am very excited for this! Thanks for doing this Tom!

The last one I attended at REI was with Loren Hansen (Das Boot namesake) and I have to say, I was pretty unimpressed! Nice guy but his public speaking was greatly lacking and he had a hard time keeping my attention for an hour. I'm sure next Tuesday will be 1000 times more interesting!

Description: Guiding canyons and teaching canyoneering courses with Zion Adventure Company sine 2007, Tom Jones has the stories to get you off the couch and the skills to get you through the canyon and wanting more. Come in for an evening of stories, instruction and inspiration to get out and try something new. Tom will also be signing copies of his book Zion: Canyoneering Guidebook.

I'll be there for sure i just signed up. going up to bridge mountain saturday to do some scouting on the sneak route to the maze. Should be interesting. its prettty prime right now for that one. looking like the first weekend in july to go do it.

Did the Maze in April and it's an awesome canyon. That water is dang cold though, even in a wetsuit.

How were all the anchors and what did the las rap look like i am always nervous about the floor on the last rap washing out during a flood or something. yeah that is my favorite canyon to date. its just freaking hard. but a blast to be so close to home.

edit: The REI website says that it will be at the GVR REI location not the BOCA Park location is this correct.

Yeah, I got the REI email the other day for the upcoming events and imagine my surprise to see that Tom is coming to visit. So I signed up! I'm going to bring my book so he can autograph it...:lol8:. Does anyone know if it's more of a slideshow type presentation? Luckily the henderson REI is like 5 minutes from my house!

Hopefully those a-holes i found bolting Hidden falls will be there to learn a little about canyoneering before they get them selves killed . Or maybe take a natural anchor course with Rich like i suggested. The sad thing is that they hiked up from the bottom as far as they could than bolted the raps from that point down idots. They said they couldn't tell if the anchors were good or not :angryfire: Ive done that canyon about 5 maybe 6 times never needed a bolted anchor before. Shit the group leader didn't even know how to use his figure 8

I'm pretty sure that all us here in Vegas/Henderson are just happy you are making the trip down here! Anything you do will be appreciated, don't stress about it!

All anchors were in pretty good shape, only had to replace the webbing on one. The second to the last rap was a mess with extra webbing and cordelette everywhere. Last rap is my favorite, anchor is good and solid. Water was flowing a bit so we had a nice little flow cascading on us as we descended.
