Use a naked Tibloc* and sooner or later you'll wish it had been leashed. I have gone back and forth on leashes over the years and am currently in a pro-leash phase.

The two main issues I've experienced with leashes:

- leash tangles and interferes with usage
- leash easily and seriously abrades on sloping terrain (e.g. pothole escapes)

My latest attempt to address these issues is shown below, using fairly stiff 4mm cord, coated with seam grip (not shown). I have used these leashes for about a month now with no tangles or abrasion issues. In the meantime, constructive comments, leash-related anecdotes, etc. are very welcome.

Note: the cord fits so tightly in the hole that the Tibloc stays put.

Great idea. I currently have a loop type cord configuration and it flops around too much and I know what you are saying with the tangles. I like the single cord, melty solution, and single fisherman's knot. I would think that melting the ends of the rope and then coating it with seam grip would keep both the knot firmly in place but also stiffen the system to prevent tangles. I must try this!!! :2thumbs:

Sorry for being such a noob but...what exactly would this be used for?

Nice lookin' leash, Hank. Way less fiddly than a loop of cord.

Only thing more disco might be a really small swaged loop of wire rope? Cord might be more friendly, though.

This looks great. :2thumbs:I'm also going to do this with my tibloc.

I'd like to see a picture of this with the seam grip. Is that like Plasti-Dip?

hi y'all

thanks for the positive feedbacks! matthew, seam grip is clear, so the cord simply appears darker and shinier after application. btw seam grip is far more adherent/durable than plasti-dip. lmk if you still want a pic and i'll get one up.

The tibloc can be used in a ratchet haul system or to ascend a rope. Often the ascender preferred by canyoneers 'cause it's small and lightweight. The leash is to manage and prevent the loss if the tibloc.

I should have leashed my Totem in Keyhole last week...

You may be glad it wasn't leashed Don. That thing could have dragged you down in a swimmer. I highly doubt anyone has gotten that thing, so perhaps I will shoot on down there b4 Monday's road construction with some fishing gear ;)

Wasn't even a swimmer; it was only about neck deep, but yeah, I guess it could have dragged me down so I am lucky. :lol8:

I barely got out of there alive, with my ATC, so the Scrote certainly could have caused a problem... :haha:

Gorgeous photography, Hank - nice macro work, and a very neat job on the leash itself.
