Heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio died on Sunday, May 16, 2010, according to a statement from his wife, Wendy. The 67-year-old New Hampshire native had been battling stomach cancer.
Dio first rose to fame as the lead singer for the band Rainbow, which he formed with former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore in 1975. In 1979, he replaced Ozzy Osbourne as the lead singer of Black Sabbath, eventually going on to record four albums with the group. He later formed his own band, Dio, and also toured with a reunited version of Sabbath called Heaven and Hell (to differentiate it from the Osbourne-led version of the band, which had also reunited).

Sad.. Stomach cancer. I have many of his albums (now on iPod). Good stuff and I'm glad to still be rocking to the old school stuff (Accept, Dio, Rammstein, Megadeth, etc)

Can't say I was a fan, but I read about him on a music forum I frequent. I guess he did some pretty cool things off the stage too like starting up "Children of the Night" to help runaway kids on the streets and "Hear N Aid" to fight famine in Africa and get the metal bands involved in charity.

Ronnie actually "invented" the devil horns sign. :headbang:

I liked Black Sabbath's stuff better when RJD was the singer rather than Ozzy, although Ozzy's stuff was more popular.

Rock on little dude.
