Hey everyone, Great site! I just registered.
I will have a last minute 3 day weekend this weekend and will be in No AZ. I would like to do a 1 or 2 day backpack somewhere cool. I was going to do one of the south rim trails in the GC (maybe Hermits Rest) but am thinking that getting a permit is going to be nearly impossible at this late date. What do you guys think. I also thought about doing Buckskin or Paria Canyons but I will have the same problem with permits there as well.
Looking for suggestions.

Grand Canyon will be pretty hot anyway.

I would suggest something with water.

Aztec Creek would be another great one, but 2-3 days isn't enough to see it all. You can always hike a section of it (Navajo permit).

Nasja, Cha or Desha Canyons should be perfect this time of year.

Sycamore Canyon area would be a good choice.

Places like West Clear Creek, Wet Beaver Creek and West Fork Oak Creek might be good (may want a wetsuit), but the water might be chilly (maybe high as well).

The Little Colorado is a good one, but it probably has too much water.

I think Buckskin (Wire Pass to White House) is the best 2-day backpack on the planet. Worth the call to see if any permits are still available. Also ask about walk-in permits. I believe they keep so many walk-in permits available for each day and are given out at the ranger station in the morning. Good Luck.

I think I will take a shot at Buckskin/Paria and if that doesn't work I will do one of the ones near Sedona.
Thanks for the advice guys, I really appreciate it.
