After years of looking at maps, other trip reports, and blogs I was finally able to travel south to the Whitney Pocket area of Gold Butte Back way Nevada.
This area has so much to explore it would take nearly a life time. The back roads and trails can lead one to areas from Grand Canyon Parashant to Lake Meade. For our trip I had a couple of must sees on my list.
First, as my wife named it Dr. Suess Land (AKA Devils Fire, Hobgoblins Playground, and I've also seen it called Little Finland)

an oasis below the ridge containing the eroded landforms.

Second, the Falling Man Petroglyph

Third, Desert Wildflowers (this wasn't really on my must see but was an appreciated addition)33432334333343433435
In the next couple days I will add more photos (photoshopped ones anyway!) to my personal blog http://mattsamazingsouthernutah.blogspot.com
good stuff.
Unless youre adding a moon or a unicorn they are not photoshopped... As long as you keep it to the point where you can still say " I was there and I witnessed this" its just processing. :naughty: at least in my book.

Yes, Yes it is a little south of Southern Utah, but I consider everything that is cool, red and rock part of my southern Utah domain!

Very cool. Thanks for sharing; I had no awareness of this place. Checking out some on-line resources it seems to be a fairly hot birding spot too. I gotta spend some time in NV instead of blowing straight past it and onto UT!

This place is pretty cool and pretty fragile.(Win and I have been there a couple of times) I'd hate to see it get too popular. Theres also some petroglyphs in the area.
I personally won't broadband the location, but wouldn't mind showing it to others. This area will eventually become as, or more popular than the wave. I call it the land of Mystic Animals. I consider the area a huge treasure.

Its location is what has kept it semi-secret and more importantly less visited. It took us a good 1 hour to 1 1/2 on dirt roads to get there and we started from where we camped at whitney pockets. To get there from Mesquite it would be a good 2 1/2 - 3 hours. So fortunately it is off the beaten path, but I bet eventually we may see a permit system put in place to protect it as it is extremely, extremely fragile. One idiot could do a lot of irreparable damage in a short amount of time.

Awesome post and pics. Thanks!
As Kurt said, we really had a great time in the area.. I went out to the Falling Man area on Saturday and was amazed that no one was around. Beautiful rock formations, nice art and some of the largest Barrel Cactus I've ever seen.
Thanks for posting the pictures.
