Julie was looking at the pics and said it was like the bowls of hell had opened. Those were amazingly beautiful and scary all in one!

Tremendous up and downdrafts within any cloud, whether it be volcanic or weather induced. These cause + and - particles which in turn setup lightning conditions. Another phenomena is snow showers with lightning.

None the less, an impressive picture.

I'll tell ya, with the lightning and lava combined with the blackness, I agree with Blueeyes - "Hell" was the first word I thought of too.

Bruce, I hope you checked out the whole series. The photo I posted was probably not the most impressive but I liked it for its artistic value.

Hell. That's funny 'cause my first thought, with all that energy in one central place, was that it's too bad we lack the ability to harness that power. Of course I also thought of Thor, but for comic book superhero rather than religious reasons.

Nah, there wasn't any religious connection to my comment. When you watch movies or tv shows and they try to protray "hell", the photos of this event in Iceland do a way better job than any movie I have seen.

For me hell is regret, separation from those I love the most, and not having the type of life I believe I can have if I live up to what I believe. Hell seems to be to be more mental than it is a location with pitch forks and fire. I can handle pitch forks and fire. Why I went throught the Black Hole on New Year's Day! Its the same just opposite....:lol8:

A good friend once told me that if you ever see a place on a map marked "Hell's <something" you should go there. It's mostly likely a very cool place.

But as to the shots they are amazing. So easy to forgot the kind of power that lies literally under our feet.

Here are so more amazing pics. Doesn't look like the gates of hell this time. I guess if we stay along the same theme....this kinda shows Heaven above.
