Wow. I really liked that article. Good post. I think we talked about this a couple months ago. So basically the premise is that since there is little atmosphere up there, it will almost be like free falling through a vacuum with no wind resistance to slow his acceleration. With unlimited acceleration he can hit the speed of sound as long as he has enough time. It almost seems like once he hits the lower atmosphere and it's suddenly air, you would think the sudden de-acceleration would cause him to "splat" against it. But it must be a gradual enough increase in air to allow survival. I was thinking it more like a barrier instead. Like hitting a pool of water transitioning from a really high dive. Fascinating stuff really!
