This question's for you Colorado Bogleyites.
The reader shot of the month in a recent issue of Backpacker was of a "slot canyon" near Pikes Peak. It says the canyon is 40 feet deep and 100 yards long. There's a small waterfall in the canyon. Anybody know where it is?
I'll try to find a picture.

Ok. It's this month's edition- March 2010.
If anyone had a good guess, it would be Scott P.

I'd put your money on Mike Dallin being the guy that knows where this is at. He posts on Bogley occationally under "mdd"
Here are a few pictures from some of his Colorado Canyoneering

Beaver Creek on the south side of Pikes Peak has short and narrow granite slots, but I couldn't pinpoint where the photo was taken.
Someone living in the Colorado Springs area could probably pinpoint it better.

Count me out of that fest. From my expierience, Colorado canyons aren't as "friendly" as Utah canyons.

Sorry everyone, I wish I could identify it but I can't. Pikes Peak is surrounded by slot canyons, but there are two problems: they are usually very short (the caption says that one is all of 300 feet long) and they are usually on or have access blocked by private property. Having said that, if you can wrangle permission there are a few gems out there, esp. on the west side.
Colorado Springs exploration is low on my list because there are much better places to go. The real deal for Colorado canyons is Ouray, but as Matt mentions they are a few degrees more dangerous than many CP canyons because of crumbly rock and flowing water. If you have the training it is a great place to go.
Ira Lewis made a wonderful video showing off a bunch of Ouray routes:

Rich,
Since this came up and Ouray looks fun I went over on the ACA site and it does not list this rendezvous? Is it still in the planning stage or are those dates solid?

I found the dates it a post listing the dates from Charly. Hasn't shown up on the calendar or accepting reservations yet.
Wanted to attend but I will have a new month old by then. Hoping the wife will let me get away for a weekend.
