It's getting to where nine miles is iffy for me. I sometimes pull the hammy
and it seems about 8 miles is now, my limit.
So, what is this shortcut? to the toadstools hike near big Water in Lake Powell/Page area? Is there a decent jeep trail that supposedly takes you to the hills and it is just a short mile or so to the toadstools?
Help?
Got some visitors coming down and looking for a nice destination.
Never been there. I would have to make this an overnighter, for me.
They are way more athletic than I.
Someone mentioned a shortcut last year?
thanks so so much for any assistance.

Never been. Saving it for a day at the in laws when there isn't something I want to hike more. There is a shortcut type to the best grouping mentioned in MK canyon hiking guide (2006 edition).
If I recall Kurt posted TR here and I think he used this route.

Jerry, I'm not too sure what hoodoos you refer to, but here is our TR for the "Wahweap Hoodoos". There is a shortcut to these, and if you would like to know, hit me sideband or stop at The Desert Rat and I'll show you. Tanya and I opted not to describe this shortcut on the WWW, as to prevent future problems with impact.

There is another set of hoodoos that Tanya and I refer to as the Toadstools just north of 89, between Paria river and the Cottonwood Road turnoff as well. It is a short 1 mile loop hike. Let me know if I might be of help.

Ah yes.......The lazy mans route. Access is off the Cottonwood road. Lots of clay. Wouldn't want to be in there during a rainstorm. The hike from above is around 1-mile each way. The road in is long. Turnoff here-N37*7.457,W111*51.283

I believe we parked at N37*10.621,W111*42.870
There was a BLM fence there and a sign saying something along the lines of no vehicles beyond this point. It is a fairly well traveled road to this point.

Read somewhere that some filming of John Carter from Mars was supposed to happen this year in the Big Water area. You might run into something stranger than the toadstools.
