I mentioned this to a few people on Facebook already, sorry for the repeat if you've already read this.

The Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance is having an open invitation camping trip at Hidden Splendor Mine in the San Rafael Swell on September 24-26. Cody and I are talking about planning a canyon trip that weekend. We could camp with or (more likely) near them, do canyons during the day and participate in camp disscussions and even a pot-luck dinner in the evening. Would be cool to meet those people and learn some stuff while doing some cool canyons.

Of course there will be political disscussions but I would welcome someone of opposing views because it'll make a more interesting conversation. Just don't want this to lead to hard feelings with anyone. I cause enough of those on my own.

I doubt this will turn into a big Bogley-fest but is anyone else interested?

Hopefully both groups get their BLM permits or you'll get busted. It sounds like an organized activity to me.

I'd love to join. The canyons sound good but the political debates sound even better. You don't have to worry about hard feelings from me, just getting me to shut up. :blahblah:

The SUWA Roundup is great fun. Not much in the way of technical canyoneering gets done, so don't expect the Roundup to help organize technical trips - you're pretty much on your own for that.

Might see you there.

I was thinking something more like FF; show up with your own plan & gear for technical stuff. But with the bonus of good conversation & alternative hiking with SUWA if someone comes but isn't into the technical stuff.

Do we need to join SUWA to attend? Just to get the political conversation started. What do you guys think about this?

Two more monuments planned in Utah?

It's more like a meeting of the choir. If'n you're an anti-SUWA type, I hope you would be polite enough to not be disruptive, but I bet you could get some good edumacation in side discussions.

I emailed SUWA that very question & a few others. I hope to hear back soon.

And stop hijacking my thread that's already being discussed in the Environmental section. :)

You don't.

Be sure to read this article too:

Not really an issue until the 2012 election campaign. Might be a question of whether Obama wants to lose Matheson (D?) as a Rep, as Clinton slew Orton.

But to answer your question - GREAT! About Time!!! Let's head over to Political Discussion section if'n you want to engage... (but I don't).
