View Full Version : The last ATK rocket test firing this Thursday

I remember my grandpa taking me up to Thiokol's rocket test firing events back in the day, it was quite the sight.

I remember a few days later we'd get some of the "glass" made by the melted sand from the heat. I remember it being green.

I guess the last one ever will be this Thursday. My mother in law is going to take my son up there to see it. I've considered taking off work for half a day to do the same.

A minor correction - it's not the last motor firing for ATK, but the last 4-segment shuttle SRB firing for ATK. There are other motors test fired up there, although depending on what ultimately happens with the Constellation program, it might be the end of the really big motor test firings for a while.

Do go see it if you get the chance. Test fires are pretty cool to see.
