USSA forced Lago to leave Olympics

Does seem pretty lame to kick him out for this. He gets to keep the medal?

Um, this is sports, where what is best (apparently) is to dangle the medal in front of your dick so some (drunk?) chick can simulate oral sex on your bronze. Kinda classless.
Is this the kind of example we want set for our kids? It's the age of Facebook and Twitter and yada yada... Dude's gotta keep in mind that anyone anywhere can have a camera, and any photos taken are going to end up visible to everyone. It would be different if it was some little podunk competition somewhere, but this is the Olympics - an Olympic medal he's using as a simulated penis. Have a little class, when out in a crowd. You can do whatever you like in private.
But it's a judgement call on what to do with him. And no one seems to be taking the medal away.

This guy just competed at the highest level of sports our society has to offer and won.
No he didn't. He's a snowboarder who's event is/was judged.
Doesn't even compare to the timed events as far as athletics is concerned.
Too funny, watching Universal Sports (instead of the friggin' paid advertising on KSL instead of olympic coverage. WTF?) today, they had Phil Mahre on. He made a comment at the end of the segment to the tune of "the olympics will be a lot better off when they get rid of judged events". The news person next to him sorta gasped and said, "but, what will we watch?" Phil shot back, "real athletes".
Got a big chuckle out of it.
I mean, come on, the guys a snowboarder...
Har har...

That's not the classless part I was referring to, and you know it.
I do understand where you are coming from. Just disagree. My idea of "having class" is behaving in a way that others respect. There is a crucial difference between "expect" and "respect" mind you. I'm just saying "expecting" a 23 year old snowboarder to behave a certain way and upholding him to some morality yardstick is wrong. I've seen lots os pictures of my friends doing "body shots" Which are more riske' than anything this guy did. I don't respect them any less for having a good time or feel they are classless because they let loose once in a while and party. But I am surprised sometimes! The shy girl who takes her top off at Lake Powell. I wouldn't expect her to do that, but would never even think her classless for doing so... Ahh well I'm rambling, hehe.. Damn you Liberals for making me do that!

Wow... See I would call that classless. Making fun of an Olympic event that people spend years and years of their life training for. And belittling their accomplishments... That's direspectful IMO. Complete 180 from 2 consenting adults at a party having fun. Must be the Libertarian in me who values individuals striving to accomplish goals and then succeeding. But I do agree that timed events are better instead of relying on human judges who are fallible. I will still watch those guys fly on a halfpipe any day over timed events though. I find them more graceful and amazing than any other olympic event.
:haha:
teaching my kids to grab whatever they can get, f*** everyone else I almost let this go but can't... F everyone else? If these are seriously your feelings about us Libertarians, we need to talk. Seem a little bitter today my friend. :)

Kinda classless.
Be careful what you wish for.
Attempting to legislate good taste amounts to censorship. If you don't want to read it, don't buy the book.
Personally, I think having brass balls hanging from your hitch receiver is rather tasteless along with all the decals featuring Calvin taking a whiz on Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Toyota, etc.
I wouldn't dream of censoring them and I think this was likewise blown way out of proportion.

I'm with the atheist on this one. It sets a bad example. However, the officials should have known better when they allowed snowboarding to be an olympic sport. They also should have known better when they allowed curling. :haha:

Totally agree. Everything you said. 100%. Wouldn't legislate, and wouldn't send the kid home. Calvin pissing stickers, and hitch balls - can't stand 'em. When I see them with my kids, I use it as an object lesson in how to be a douchebag (though I don't use that term, yet.)

I am sorry but this kids actions are probably mild compared to what past Olympians have done that never made it to film. I agree it is tactless, but he is 23. Should he have been sent home. No. Looks to me you have two consenting adults, nothing illegal here.
Really I find it more annoying that people snap pics on their phones and cameras to share with the world, like little tattle tales. Most of the time for a profit.

Naw, has nothing to do with moguls.
Here's Alta's reason, and, you can read between the lines. From their website:
"No, Alta is a skier's mountain. Snowboarding is not allowed. Alta Ski Area is committed to preserving and protecting the skiing experience. Snowboarders are encouraged to go on Snowcat Tours."
Here's what Deer Valley's communications manager says their reasoning is:

Uh the reason they don't want them is not because they wear baggy pants. The boards effect the terrain.
Not much to do with baggy pants, as the skiers picked up a bit on their fashion to be sure.
Hate to belabor the point, but, really hasn't much to do with their effect on terrain, IMHO. In the pre-season, there's gobs (gobs) of boarders at Alta. My estimate is 50% or more. Post season, they come back, probably at 70% or more. They build a few jumps near the base, but, that's about their effect on the terrain. Past that, you wouldn't know the diff.
Its interesting that out of the 3 places in the U.S. that don't allow snowboarders, two are in Utah. I suspect it has more to do with marketing and their skier "niche" than anything. "Alta is for skiers".
Have had a number of friends work at both places. Never has any mention of a boards effect on terrain come up as a reason for not allowing snowboarding.
But, I'll bite. What are you basing your opinion on? Being that it isn't supported both publicly and in private by either ski resort.
Happy turns either way...

I'll bite, I've got to disagree that it doesn't have to do with the effect on the terrain. They may be using a P.C. statement but beginner and intermediate snowboarders are the worst thing that ever happened to Snowbird. I know 2 of my kids are intermediate and one is an Expert. Because of how forgiving Snowboarding is we can all hang out together. Snowboarding is easier to learn and you are able to board much more difficult terrain than an intermediate skier can. They can do this because when it gets steep and skinny they can just slide down the hill on their edge and remove all of the snow out of the chutes etc. then when it opens up they start making turns. I have an 8 year old who boards and he can board anything Snowbird has to offer because he justs slides when he's in trouble and when it's really steep he doesn't have to make a toe side turn, just goes back and forth across the hill. Intermediate skiers are not venturing into the Gad Chutes etc because they struggle all the way down. By how fast he picked up boarding vs. learning to ski he would never be able to venture into those areas on skis. There isn't a good mogul run left at Snowbird anymore because the Snowboarders and skiers make different turns.
But with that all said I purposely made my kids board because of the above listed hates I have as a skier. With the same amount of time learning to board as ski I am able to cover a much broader area with them then they would be able to do on skis. Except when they are stuck on a damn cat track :frustrated: and I have to help them fasten the binding when they get off the lift. :frustrated: IMO snowboarding has saved the industry, but it hasn't been a positive on the condition of the runs. Spend a day at Snowbird and then go spend a day at Alta. IMO the snow experience is exponentially better at ALTA. Better moguls, softer less icy runs and the powder seems to last longer. I am a Season Pass holder at the Bird so the whole family can go. But otherwise I would be sipping my Kool Aid at Alta.
But either way this season has SUCKED. :frustrated:

And I agree with everything else you said. Except, I made my kids learn to ski, anyone can learn to board.
Snowboarders forever changed the skiing industry some bad but most good. I hated them when they first started, but now I actually have tried snowboarding, Meh.
I remember as a kid the mogul fields, they were so much fun and many times they were as tall as me. My dad was afraid he was going to lose me amongst them. The moguls don't get like that anymore. Really I am glad cuz my knee couldn't cope with it.
And tomorrow I go ski!!!! Last time this year.

Last time I checked, I couldn't go uphill on a board.
Four pair of skis and I still haven't been on a lift.
I agree with the last part. The season has sucked. Haven't skied good snow once this year after having conflicts on the one or two good snow days. No justification at all for picking up full climbing skins for the tele setup or to stop renting beacons from the ORC.
Nothing but crust to ski on the last couple of weekends and the avalanche danger is going to go sky high if we get a good dump too. Maybe I should break down and hit a resort. Even with the boarders, the groomed stuff has got to be better than the crap I've been skiing this year.
