I'm always asking for doctor recommendations here, because you folks know some good ones. This time though, it's my wife who's in trouble. For the past several months, she's been experiencing a great deal of pain in her joints. This pain doesn't seem to stay in one part of her body, but moves around, one day affecting her left knee, for example, and the next day spreading to her hip and right wrist, and a third day affecting most of one side and maybe a joint or two on the other side. These symptoms are getting worse. Many of her symptoms sound like rheumatoid arthritis, but her family doctor did a blood test and found that the rheumatoid factor of her blood, though slightly elevated, didn't clearly indicate that she had RA. He prescribed amitriptylene for her pain and suggested that she see an arthritis specialist.
Well, the drug hasn't worked for her pain, and the specialists are booking clear out in May. I don't necessarily trust this family doctor to be able to diagnose and offer a proper treatment for what's happening, so we'd like to get another doctor to take a look at her and offer his or her opinion. The thing is, we don't really know who would be good at this.

As we live in the Salt Lake Valley, we would welcome any suggestions for doctors in SLV. If you have a family doctor that you think is just wonderful at figuring out what's wrong with you and how to treat it, that's the kind of thing we're looking for. Thanks in advance for your help

Dr. Don Stromquist MD

Rheumatologist - Salt Lake City, Utah

324 10th Ave
Stromquist Benowitz & McMillan
Suite 250
Salt Lake City, UT 84103

A few years ago, I had pain in most of my joints to the point where I couldn't walk. Red cell count 3 times normal, white count way down, among other things. I went from my primary care doc to an Oncologist, to an infectious disease specialist and finally to Dr. Stromquist. After 5 weeks with no answers, he had me pegged within 10 minutes. Turns out it was a rare autoimmune disease called Still's Disease. After 3-4 years of treatment, I have been pain/symptom free ever since.

I highly recommend giving him a call. I appreciated the fact that my appointments always started on time. He's a very nice guy with a corny sense of humor.

I can't say enough good about him.

Thanks, Shlingdawg! That's what I'm talkin' about.
