Been a while since I've posted so thought I'd throw one out there. A couple weekends ago Dave and I planned a trip to up top of Red Mountain behind Kayenta. 20 years ago I had started up Hellhole, but not to top out Red Mountain, rather, I was seeking climbing lines. I found a couple lines and put anchors in. "Thin-chim-cheroo", and "Hand-full of sugar". Never did return to investigate further until this hike. A group of us met and started hiking at around 7:30 AM. Round trip was about 5 miles, 1600' elev. change and required 3 spots of some 4th-5th class scrambling. Overall was magnificent weather, fun friends and beautiful scenery! Even got to get in my requisite polar plunge up top! Here are some pictures that Bert took. Hope you enjoy.

Nice shots! I love the contrast between the red rock and the snow.

I'm envious of those hikes right in your back yard.

Avalanche just west of Hell's Hole wash!! Just a month ago.
Wow! the ground shook and I heard rocks cracking. way cool.
Be careful out there. Lots of water and crack and freeze in the rocks this year with 163% of usual snow pack. I believe extra water was the cause of the young lad falling off the ledge that collapsed east of Snow Canyon on the ATV? Poor little fella. How sad. I have been extra cautious this year since everything seems to be
loosening up? perhaps? I'm no expert. Just a worry wart? hehe

Awesome pictures - where is this at? I guess I need to start lookin for some entertaining hikes since my spring break will probably too cold wet and snowy for the normal techincal canyon options

This hike was on Red Mountain. Google Earth Ivins Utah. Look to the NNW and see all the spread out homes at Kayenta adjacent to Ivins. Look north-north east of Kayenta and see the dark canyon that runs NNE. That is Hell Hole. There are numerous routes to the top of Red Mountain and this is one of the more technical routes. Yesterday I hiked the Red Mountain Trail from Hwy. 18 near Dammeron Valley and descended the mountain just to the west of Tuacahn and down into Padre Canyon. Lots and lots of great hiking on Red Mountain!
