The changes are to make the trail safer, especially the trail exit area, which is prone to falling rocks. There is a huge rock (30x4x2) that could fall at any moment, or it may stay up there for years. The management would like to remove this rock and also change the lower end of the exit trail to avoid a heavy rock fall area.

Nice job! Thanks. I've never been. But, everyone who is or used to live up that way always says I have to make it a destination.
so, How do I do that? How do I plan on a long long day and go and come back and see it? I live in St. George and only take day trips. I can leave at
3 a.m. and get home by midnight. But, not an overnighter.

I really want to make this happen.
thanks.

You can make a day out of it.. leave at 3 AM get to timp around 9 (depending on how fast you drive you could be there sooner). Hike up, take the tour , hike down (about 1.75 hours if you take your time) and drive home

Yeah, the key thing is not to plan your trip for too early in the year as it will be closed, and be aware that some days in the summer there is a waiting list. I remember waiting 45-90 minutes.

Here's a virtual tour of the cave and trail. http://www.nature.nps.gov/geology/parks/tica/tica_virtual_fieldtrip/Index.htm
