I've been away for a while so I didn't realize there was so much snow in SE Utah until someone refered me to the Freeze Fest reports and photos.

Anyway, we were planning to get out next week on a 4-5 day trip.

It sounds like even North Wash has quite a bit of snow (I've heard 8 foot drifts in the canyons!) and Moab has a foot of snow. I assume the Roost is also buried. I called a lodge in Bluff and they say there is snow there too.

I assume if North Wash was hit than Goblin Valley was too (which rules out places like Quandary or North Fork Iron)?

How's St. George? Any other ideas of places where there isn't so much snow or is all of SE Utah buried? Anyone been around Bullfrog?

I also called the Marble Canyon Lodge and they said there was no snow down there. It's a long drive, but I might head down there anyway if no where in SE Utah is reasonable.

Fished at Bullfrog last Wednesday night while it was snowing at Sandthrax. We saw a few flakes but it wasn't bad. We were surprised at how much snow was on the road on the way back to camp.

bullfrog had some decent coverage as of a week ago. i bet it is melting quick. i imagine most of that stuff is accessible now, unless there has been more snow.

st. george was reasonably accessible last week, i know folks who were riding trails down there. bill reports a few feet of snow up at the ponderosa ranch. haven't heard in escalante, but i'm assuming it had complete coverage last week as well.

marble canyon is probably good. i believe rich was in marble canyon last week, and the storm hit them, but it has cleared up already, they operated both days end of december.

not sure what north wash looks like as of today, but if it stayed clear and dry, most south facing canyons should be back in condition, at least that's my guess....

Looks pretty dang snowy.

i bet it is melting quick.

That's part of what I was worried about. Before I knew of the conditions (I had been out of the country since Dec 15), I suggested to the others North Wash, Roost, Eastern Reef as being good areas to have a good chance mostly dry canyons, but I guess if that snow melts the canyons might be very wet. I don't know if others would be interested in wet canyons.

Anyway, I'm thinking we may either just head to Marble Canyon, or do something short in some place like North Wash and see how conditions are or maybe try something non-techncial.
