Teva make great shoes for walking down the beech holding hands with your wife.... but canyoneering is a different animal...

I have a pair of Teva's that i have used for two seasons. They are the best! They are rafting/trail running shoes. They drain fast, comfortable, and the shoes are treated so they wont ever stink most of the new ones are treated as well. I love the spider rubber they stick to anything. Also look for one that has the ratchet, so you can cinch the ribs of the shoe. Plus you can buy a high quality shoe that lasts for tons cheaper if you go to the right place or an at an outlet. I picked mine up for less than 30 and they should have cost over $100. I am a big fan! Mine have been to hell and back 37 canyons this year alone!

This is just a link I did not spend to much time looking fro a great description, but this does ok. They say trail runner, which i mentioned before ,, but on the web site when then came out two years ago were also posted as rafting shoes. Yeah but I love them wish I would have bought a few more! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230409177058&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=WXF%3F&GUID=adb77cf81250a04371e25d72fffd74f8&itemid=230409177058&ff4=263602_263622

Those shoes would be destroyed in minutes in the difficult and skinny mae west stuff. Just a couple of foot jams would rip off the strap system... and the treads are exposed and would be shredded in minutes.... and the mesh will just desolve.
You would not see this problem in the Zion type canyons, just the mae west type canyons....

Those Teva Trail Runners remind me of the Salomon Amphib Tech. And this is what the Salomons looked like after ONE day canyoneering in some of the more difficult North Wash canyons.

Well I have put them to the test in 37 canyons this year alone! plus last season! they are still rocking hard! Imlay, heaps, plus tons of others. I have never seen the canyon 5-10 or the sportiva for under $100 not a good price unless you can get a pro deal. For the price my shoes have done very well and held up to all my friends 5-10 and sportiva shoes and they were on sale for 30 bucks I could buy three shoes for the price of one of those expensive shoes. All I am saying is that they have served me well and the price is amazing. It is a matter of preference and price range! But they have been the BOMB!

Also the Salmon shoes are not even similar you can not compare them! Look at the protective reinforced toe and side, the Salomon doesn't have that so the wear will be different. Further more the teva shoe is not made with crappy cloth mesh it is built with a breathable rubber netting that is abrasive resistant. The heal is only connected by a strap in the Salomon shoes I will admit that those shoes suck, I sold them and never liked them. You cant show a random pair of shoes, those are not the shoes or comparable. U cant make a point about another shoe that is irrelevant about how Teva's suck hahahah. Not even the same shoe! But as you said they are good for the Zion canyons and those are the only ones I have done, so I guess I will have to pinch some pennies if I ever leave the Zion area. The only thing I would change about my Tevas is the strape is connected with a buckle that is not protected that enables the ratchet to snug up the middle of the shoe, but it does have a back up lacing system as well. I don't doubt that those other shoes are good quality, just to EXPENSIVE!! Maybe I'll just buy some Duck Tape or webbing if i head that way! :2thumbs: Its all good!

We all like different things for different reasons..... if everyone liked blondes the brunettes and red heads wouldn't have anything to do on Friday night.

I don't like feet that is why I like shoes so much, cover them babies up! My Teva's finally are out of rotation and haven't had any good luck finding more of the ones I like. Ice will be happy to hear this, I picked up a pair of the 5:10 Canyoneerer's, but I got a smoken deal at the AZ Hiking Shack a few months back 52 bucks. I am always excited to try new gear out took them trough Box Canyon last week they worked great on the rocks, but the ice was scary no grip! I am really concerned that the 5:10's only have the buckles to secure the foot and no back up lacing system when they fail. Anyways I hope they treat me as well as my Teva's. :2thumbs:

Buckle straps have been greatly improved. I have not broken one in many years. The key is not to crank on them, which is entirely unnecessary. The Velcro hold the shoe in place for the most part. Your back up is Duct Tape. Did Heaps that way once, strap broke 50 feet from the car (which was lucky, as the duct tape was in the car). Carried a little extra to re-do it at suit up, had no problems. Musta been 6 years ago...

Cant wait to put them to the test this season! Got a lot planned. Glade to hear about the improvements on the strap, makes me feel more confident in my purchase. Sounds like most everyone on here swears by the 5:10's. I always keep some duct tape handy, learned from the best in duct tape innovations. (The Red Green Show) Thanks for all the input!
