The holidays are approaching quickly. I'll be at work for a couple days next week and then its hasta luego until the new year. I'll be of course hanging with family, eating honey baked ham and watching football. :five: I need to plan some other stuff too... :haha: Perhaps a trip to a ski resort is in order.
What does everyone else have planned?

Working through Friday (doing the midnight shift Christmas Eve to Day - I'll watch for Santa on the radar...). Off the 26, 27, 28, 29. Celebrating our 23rd wedding anniversary on the evening of the 30th by going back to work. Working an evening shift on New Years Eve, and back on New Years Day at noon. Off the 2, 3, 4 and 5 of January.

I will, of course, be watching the weather in Utah during FF, and grumbling about not being there. I was stunned to see 1/4 mile in freezing fog, and -17C in Moab last week. Brrrr. Hope that kind of stuff ain't around at New Years!

What's your frequency, Kevin? What with the time zone difference, I'll give you a shout at 0900Z on the 25th (possibly about your time 0200 or 0300 Local)...we're on UTC exactly, as you know.

Then I'm off for family duties for the rest of Christmas Day.

But on Boxing Day (26th) we have our Club flour-bombing & spot-landing competition (= legalised hooliganism), daylight hours, so if you can sneak away, we're at EGBG, and I've volunteered to do the tower Radio Air/Ground service all day, 122.125

E will be with his mom (and boyfriend  ) christmas eve and morning. I won't see him until christmas late afternoon or evening so I plan to drink steadily all day christmas eve and sleep it off until he comes over.

We'll have the weekend plus monday to hang out then I'm off to FF with Cody early Tuesday morning.

This reminds me; I need to run by Camp Williams this week to stock up on liquor and beer...

Pretty close pricing, but no taxes and better percentage beer.

And, in case you need to sneak liquor into the mail for a friend in Iraq, the only place in UT where you can get mini-bottles.

Well, I'll be working a few frequencies - tower on 118.7, 119.55, 124.0, 125.65, 226.5, 236.6 ground on 121.7, 127.15, 275.8 and clearance delivery on 121.4. :lol8: I will be alternating with a co-worker for most of the middle of the shift. Not sure yet if I'll be working at 0900Z (for us, 0300 lcl).

Have a great time! Never tried the flour-bombing, but it looks & sounds fun. I used to work at a smaller tower (Langley, CYNJ (http://www.langleyairport.bc.ca/), until '04) with clubs and schools and so on, and I sure miss that kind of thing. I love my current job, but I really enjoyed the sense of community in a smaller airport!

An aside - funny to see someone else mention Boxing Day! Last week, I was talking to a US Airways flight taxiing for departure to Phoenix. When I switched him over to Tower, the pilot said "Have a happy Boxing Day!" Couldn't help laughing and thanking him.

Don, I spent a couple days at McChord AFB south of Seattle about 15 years back (tour of the base & the NORAD installation there, etc.). I remember buying booze there, and what a great deal it was. :2thumbs: I'll also never forget the hangover on the ride back to Vancouver... :frustrated:

We fell into not celebrating the holiday last year. My son was in Japan and so was his g/f and two other friends who'd been celebrating with us for years. It just didn't feel like Christmas to any of us.

My youngest who was 15 at the time was adamant about not wanting any anything to do with "Consumerism Day" as she called it. My eldest daughter followed suite, and couldn't think of a thing that she wanted. No one wanted to decorate a tree, or do anything remotely Christmas like, so we just kinda went with the family flow & skipped the holiday.
No cards sent, no tree, no presents. We went hiking on Christmas day last year, & spent a lot of quality time together during our time off of work & school, & I attended Freeze Fest as I usually do.

This year is pretty much the same, only we are going to my sisters on Christmas eve for a social/food thing. No gift exchange this year, just company, family, and religious stuff...

Christmas day, both of my daughters and I are going to work at a homeless shelter/soup kitchen. They're expecting to feed/clothe 300 people that day. I'm off to buy 40 pairs of socks in a few minutes!

My eldest daughter and I are headed to Freeze Fest on the 29th, & we'll be ringing in the New Year doing the Black Hole with a bunch of other (maybe a hundred of em this year) crazy people! :2thumbs:

Christmas with the wife and kids (I don't have any family in Utah), then it's hopefully (work permitting) a father & sons trip to the Mesquite/Logandale/Las Vegas area to play in the dirt.

First of all, it's "What's the frequency Kenneth?" Second, I tried flour bombing once at our local EAA meeting/fun day, and not only missed the big "A" (for Ada) in the middle of the field, I think I ended up hitting the runway with it. Grr!

We're knee deep in kitchen remodel and that will be our holiday focus! Of course, we will take a break Christmas morning to go skiing - that's our tradition. Then - whahoo! I am off to Michigan for a week! yay!

Well - now that it appears that I have cracked/broken my heel, my plans for FreezeFest have been cancelled. I will be waiting to see reports of the event.

I'm going to learn to play my guitar and maybe read a book. :2thumbs:

Go! You only live once.

I would still go and hang at the campsite, but I have to get an MRI, see the dr etc. After all - I have been walking around on it for 7 weeks. :eek2:

And the booted foot will not fit in my sleeping bag! :roflol:

Go and have a great time!!!

Opened my best christmas present this morning; the day off! I'm not going back to work until January 4th!!!!

And Tanya, you should come down to FF. It's crazy, but crazy fun! I read a quote recently that reminded me of FF. This should be the FF tag line:

"It doesn't have to be fun to be fun." - Barry Blanchard

Just the usual for me Christmas Eve.... which is.... chasing the scantily clad hot young stripper wife around the Christmas Tree.

She's easy to catch.... she has a hard time running in 6" stiletto's after a few hot toddies. :getiton:

Heading down to Moab for some winter hiking tomorrow. I need some outdoor therapy in a bad way. Most of 2009 sucked ass..........ready for a new year with some new energy! Might as well spend the start of the new year in one of the places I love. :2thumbs:
