Maybe not the right forum, but wondering? Feb. 5th and 6th, the city of St. George will be sponsoring an Adventure Race/ Climbing/ Canyoneering/ Hiking/ etc. Festival. The event will include 2 adventure races, climbing, rapelling, zip-lines, canyoneering, NP SAR demos, clinics, music, food, vendors and more. I'm trying to find a guest speaker/ slide show who would be presented friday night. Budget is quite limited, so it would be nice to find someone that might have a story to tell at low to no cost? I have contacted Mike Anderson (Dr., not the hardcore climber) to see if he would present his experience on Elephant Island/ South Georgia Island with Conrad Anker and Reinhold Messner during the IMAX filming of "Shackleton", and will contact local climber/ photographer Jorge Visser who has travelled and filmed extensively Chris Sharma, Dave Graham and others. So far I have not recieved any comittments from anyone.

Does anyone maybe have any suggestions of whom I may contact that might be interested?

Thanks!
Bo

Tom used to put on a pretty good canyoneering slideshow.

how about Jeff Lowe? He's a famous mountaineer and icon in my book.

I just copied and pasted this from
http://www.rockandice.com/inthemag.php?id=368&type=onlinenews

"When Jeff Lowe started climbing in or around the 1960s, there was no such thing as sport or trad. Says Jim Donini, one of Lowe

Jeff's health kinda comes and goes these daze...and its difficult for him to travel.

But, he hangs out on the supertopo forum where he posts as "jello".

Yeah, he'd be great.

I"m glad you mentioned Jeff! I had Jeff come to Outdoor Outlet 5 Years ago for one of my "On the Rocks Demo Days". He did a slide presentation on Friday Night. I heard it was really great, however I wasn't present. (My dad passed away on thursday night, so I missed the show). I will definately give him a call. I know his sister pretty well and I'm sure I can get contact info. from her. Thanks Man!

Jeff just did a mini fest up here in Ogden a couple weeks back. It was fantastic.

He had Steve House talk about his adventures and new book.

Another couple of names...

The Swiss Miss aka Caroline George hangs out here in SLC and does shows from time to time. I think she has a website. She's also friends with Rebecca Reusch (?) a high end adventure racer.

The BAG hangs out here too. She's busier than a one legged ass in a man kickin' contest, but, I bet she does a fine show. Brittany. Contact info at patagucci.

Our own Jared Campbell is a bit of an adventure racer...he probably doesn't have a canned show, but, who knows? I know Nathan Smith has a nice photo of him that the girls (and some guys...har har) enjoy. Only one he sold at the Odgen Climb-fest a couple years ago. Nathan does a good show too. As does our own Andrew Burr. Both severely busy but you never know.

Cheers!

Jeff Lowe would be a great choice.

Another one to consider is Greg Child. World class climber and Moab resident. Greg has authored several books - "Thin Air: Encounters in the Himalayas", "Mixed Emotions: Mountaineering Writings of Greg Child", "Postcards from the Ledge", "Over the Edge" and "Climbing Free" which he co-authored with Lynn Hill. I've read all these and they are among the best climbing writing I have read. He has been awarded the American Alpine Club

Bo how about Ed Viesturs. You've know him from the past and gone out drinking with him. Jeff sounds like a good one. I'd come down to hear him talk.

What about your contacts through La Sportiva?

What about Gary Bocarde, I think he own's mountain trip, the denali guides, and I think I remember him saying that he has a place in Cedar City. He may even live there in the winter months so he may be close.

Two additional thoughts:

Mike Libecki - a big wall climber/adventurer, etc. I saw him speak at Black Diamond two years ago and it was a great preez.

Karl Meltzer - Local SLC ultrarunner (won 5 - 100 mile races this year) and La Sportiva/Red Bull, etc. athlete who has done some adventure races too. He is a friend of mine so I could introduce the idea if you'd like. Not much in the way of big climbs or canyoneering on his resume though.
