We're getting a few different versions of the story, but I was driving home yesterday and felt this explosion as I was about 1/2 mile away across the freeway.

From KSL.com "One of those bombs exploded in a remote area of the base, the other didn't. "

uh... ok. This was probably 500 feet from the freeway. All of the power got knocked out on the base.

So the jet was having trouble taking off, the pilot follows procedure and drops 2 empty containers, and 2 bombs. 1 bomb unexpectedly detonated when it hit the ground, the other buried 17 ft.

It was strange, it felt like the blast came from behind me, but I looked ahead and saw this black mushroom cloud probably 200 ft in the air.

I just wonder what would have happened if the bomb landed on the freeway. This wasn't some exact procedure protocol or anything, I'm thinking a lot of people got lucky on this one, including me.

Yeah, I was at the traffic light when I felt it. I looked around and saw everybody staring over at the base, that's when I looked and saw that cloud.

Then everybody hopped on their cell phone and started calling 911.... everybody wants to be "the guy that called 911" :haha:

But I'm just not hearing anything about how this could have easily missed the "remote area of the base". I mean seriously, the freeway is right there, and Roy / Sunset cities are right there on the border.

Yeah but if either Roy or Sunset were bombed out of existence, would anyone really notice? :ne_nau: Besides the meth-heads? :haha:

If it's armed, yes. Modern ordnance should be safe until the pilot arms it.

The interwebs have a serious need for a sarcasm font.
