Where: Sapa's Bar and Grill on 700 S State
When: 6:30PM Wednesday Oct 21st

For now I am going with 6:30PM until I hear from Cirrus if that will work for him. Remember Cirrus is from Canada so if he can make so can you Utahans.

There is more to eat at a Sushi bar then Sushi so come have rice with us. We can try an convert you. Bring CASH with you. I find that big groups tend to confuse the hell out of waitresses. If we all have cash we can do one check and make it easier. Unless anyone has huge objections to that.

Who is coming????

I will try. A little busy that day.

I'd like to make this.

And cash for sure. Nothing better than a waitress looking at 22 people who all want to pay with credit cards. :haha:

When I left Kev in Zion last night he told me to be sure to push this dinner on Bogley as he is looking forward to seeing you all!

Josh and Brad are both on the fence, I'm not sure about Cody.

I'll be there.

Looking forward to it!

Any chance there's a karaoke place nearby?

Just wanted to second that Cirrus can attend. I was in Englestead with him yesterday and he was very excited to see you guys up there. He's slowly making his way up!

I found Wednesday night Karaoke!
Piper Down on 1492 S State St. is only a few blocks from dinner and according to their site does have Karaoke on Wednesday!

Anyone want to sing?

Cool TreeHugger - glad you can make it for a while!

Sombeech - just wear one of those surgical masks, so none of us catch it...

Dirk pops up for the first time in 7 months - just to say he can't make it?!? FAIL!

Mmmm, karaoke...

I never hang out in the general or unplugged section but Kevin mentioned this while we were down south so I actually took the time to find the post. I don't live too far from Sapa's so I should be able to come. I'm on call so if I don't show up that means I had to work. There is a chance I'd have to leave if I got called in at 7:00, but usually I know before 6:30. Mmmm... Sushi.

My symptoms are letting up today, hopefully I'll join you guys tomorrow.

We're expecting a new batch of bogley shirts any day now, hopefully they'll be done by tomorrow, I'll pick them up on my way and bring stickers if anybody's interested.

Sorry to be a party pooper but I'm not going to make it tonight. I'm coming down with something, feel like shit today, the ex is just getting over the swine flu and while I hope I don't have that, I'd hate to spread it around at dinner. I'm having soup tonight. Dammit. Have fun anyway!

I'm still thinking about it. I'm feeling a little better, but there's some congestion still looming. I'd love to meet up with you guys, maybe I'll make a late appearance and just skip dinner or something.

I'm probably not contagious anymore but I'd hate to get anybody sick.

Dinner was fabulous!

Cirrus, Treehugger, MrBrejcha, James, Deeps and Me had a grand time eating sushi last night.

Sapa's is now high on my list of places to eat sushi. Highly recommend the Blazzing Jazz role and the Volcano and whatever it was that James ordered mmmm.

Most interesting fact we learned all night is that Deeps is a fight inspector. Who would a thought? :lol8: :2thumbs:

For those of you who didn't show :bootyshake: you missed out!

A fight inspector... go figure. ;-)

What is a fight inspector? Should this be fire or flight?

Edited to add: I googled and looks like Nevada has some inspectors for competitive boxing. That's a unique profession if indeed this was the correct word spelling.

I do need to make another upcoming Bogley outing -- if for no other reason than to meet James.

TreeHugger

Indeed, fight inspector is the guy that makes sure everything is legal, etc. in ultimate fighting matches... but we'll let Deeps tell ya all about it! :-)

James - you're a doll! Good to see you.

Hey looks like we might have are own Bogley Fight Fest we already have a resident fight inspector. When is the smack down? :lol8:

Deeps actually does this job on the side... very interesting how he happened into this.

And just cuz I don't really have anywhere else to post it:

This trip was the best I've had yet to Utah. Met a ton of cool people, and spent more time with others that I had met previously. Had some really excellent adventures, and was encouraged to kick it up a notch (Bam!) in the canyons I did. To those who joined me, whether in a canyon, on a hike, or in a restaurant, I thank you, and look forward to spending more time with you in the future!

Kevin, it was great joining you in canyons, campgrounds and multiple cantinas. Thanks for the hang out time.

About being a fight inspector, I engineered my way into the position with some fairly questionable ulterior motives. I'm not your typical fight guy, and in fact I had to google MMA to figure out what it was the first time I saw it in writing. But I figured it out and talked my way in.

So, yeah. I'm a fight inspector for the State of Utah. We have a pretty sweet commission. A couple of times a month I'll work an MMA cage match at Club Elevate or at the Ultimate Combat Gym on the west side. Occasionally I'm asked to go to Wendover for a night. Doing that tomorrow. There are fights in Vernal, Price, and St. George as well. I keep wanting to get a St. George assignment so I can hit a canyon or two as part of the deal. Fingers crossed.

I've worked with some fairly famous fighters like Jason "Mayhem" Miller, Jon Murphy, Michael Westbrook, Jake Shields, Andrei Arlovski, & Eddie Alvarez. I took Chris/utahadventureguide along to a referee and judge training put on by Big John McCarthy. The local fighters are super cool as well, for the most part. They're incredibly kind to one another, and easy to be around. The audiences are the toughest part of the job, especially for a guy my size.

Most of what I do is easy enough. Check the fighters in, look over their paperwork, license, health forms. Weigh them. Administer a few random drug tests. Make sure they see the doc before the fight. Watch the tape job their corner does. Sign it. Tape the grappling gloves on, tape them, sign them. Get the fighter to the cage, make sure no one slips them anything. Safety check (cup, mouth guard). Sit with their corner ringside. Watch for injuries. Make sure the corner isn't talking the guy into staying in the fight if he wants to quit between rounds. Listen to the fighter. Make sure they see the doc again immediately outside the ring. Take them back to their ready area, ensuring they don't fall down stairs or get lost in their altered post-fight state. Next fighter. Sometimes I get to score keep, which puts me ringside the entire night. Sweet gig. Not really my scene whatsoever, but interesting to observe the crowd and the culture.
