Been working like a mad man the last few weeks. 14-15 hour days 7 days a week for the last month. Been forced to take some time off due to this.

Anyone ever had a case of the shingles? Well, here you go.

This started out as some god awful pain traveling around my left leg, left testy and lower left back. At first I thought I had re-injured a slipped disk in my lower back and/or pulled a groin muscle. No big deal. I have had the slipped disk issue several times. But this kept moving around to different parts of my leg and back and was getting worse not better. Got some severe spasms too. I was living on Advil for several days. I got kind of scared thinking maybe it was a blood clot working it

Abby has had shingles three times, each during a period of extreme stress. The last time was right after Katrina destroyed my sister's house in New Orleans. Multiple recurrences of shingles are rare, but Abby's rheumatoid arthritis played a significant roles. By late October of 2005, during the worst of her third outbreaks, we hospitalized her so she could receive intravenous pain meds. It was pretty terrible.

The good news? In about 94% of all cases, it goes away and doesn't come back. (About 6%, including my wife, there is a syndrome called "post-herpetic neuralgia", which is pain after the rash is gone.)

So lower your stress, eat right, and hang in there. -R

So sorry!

I had them when I was 18 right before I went to Mexico for 5 weeks. I thought for sure the Doc was going to tell me I couldn't go on my trip.

The rash was right where my bra wraps around my chest. It was miserable. My rash wasn't as bad as yours mild compared to your pics.

Follow Barron's rules. That is exactly what the Doc told me back then.

Ouch - heal quickly! I had it mildly in my mid teens - the later you get it the more painful, from what I've heard. Take care!

Dang bro! First the faceplant and now this. Not having a good year eh? Weird you say it's painful, never knew anything about this before. To me its looks hella itchy and i would be sooo wanting to scratch those!

Anyways, I hope you get better. I've found meditation and Yoga really helps with stress. At least it works for me amazing. If you need some tips just let me know. Stress is something I had a big problem with and have finally conquered it. So at least I can offer ya help there.

My father has it in the optic nerve on his right side. the docs in Pocotello could not diagnose it so he was treated for all sorts of things before he was sent to a doc at UofU and was told that the doc had not seen a worse case and the pachent survived thank god my pops is a tough bird. it has been 4 years and he has not fully recovered good luck and hopefully it goes away soon.

That sucks man! Thanks for posting the pictures. I have heard of shingles but never seen a case of it. I can only imagine the discomfort. I do hope you get well soon.

My condolences and wishes for a speedy recovery.

My buddy in our band came down with a case last month. What sucked for us, and worth noting to everyone here is that Shingles can cause Chicken Pox if you have never had Chicken Pox. Oddly it can't cause Shingles in someone who has had Chicken Pox. And of course it can't cause Chicken Pox again for someone as you only get that once.

For us that meant no band practice for a month because I never had Chicken Pox.

The other weird thing is that they have a vaccine against Shingles but it is only approved for people over 60 or so. I don't get that given all the misery I've seen from this disease.

ahh man, sorry to see that. I thought I had a pretty good case on the left side of my back as a 17 yr old senior last year as I started in as student body president, lots o stress. yours looks pretty rough though. I remember the simple weight of a t-shirt making me sure hurt quite a bit, and any type of hugs were a huge no no. I was put on some meds and it cleared up relatively quick, it hasn't returned yet. Definitely not something fun to have, especially at the severity yours appears. good luck man!

You might ask your doctor about getting the chicken pox vaccine. There is also a shingles vaccine.

Man, get better soon. I have been wondering where you had been lately. Good to see your still alive (in whatever form).

Get well soon and then relax man. You've gotta go ride Perry Canyon one more time before the snow flies. It's in great shape right now.

Wow, thanks folks.

I'm pretty sure the massive hours I have been working is the cause of my stress overload which led to this. In fact this whole year has been pretty stressful. Had to lay a guy off this spring and that was real tough on me. He had 4 kids and was just one hell of a good guy. Work has been on and off. Now it's on like crazy so I've been trying to make up for the slow times we had and trying to prepare for a anticipated slow winter.

The rash is still looking pretty nasty if not worse. The pain is something else. The rash burns and itches and the leg just plain aches. Some of the rash now has swollen so they look like raspberries. I get flu like symptoms on and off and my leg is all swollen now. This is pretty weird because apparently when I had the Chickenpox I only had like one or two "pox". With this my lower back, left butt cheek, and upper right leg are all covered. Yuk.

Needless to say I'm not having very much fun right now.

Time to medicate.

Damn, that looks rough. Had something similar in the body armor area (chest and especially my back) when we first went to Iraq. It sucked. Feel better.
