Obesity levels in America in 1998 and 2008

IT MAY be time to hide the cookie jar. Over 26% of Americans are obese, with a weight to height ratio (or body mass index) of over 30, according to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, a government body. Over the past ten years, waistlines have expanded in every state. In 1998 most states had a relatively trim population, with fewer than a fifth of adults obese. But since then the scales have tipped in the other direction. Now at least a quarter of adults in 32 states are obese. Mississippi is the fattest of all, with a third of its residents considered obese.

This doesn't surprise me. I have recently been making an attempt to not eat fast food but instead the 'ol healthy stuff.

But trying to cook healthy at home is becoming a task.

Better do something if you don't want to be part of the stats

That looks intense but I'm too old for that now. Joints don't work so much either. But thats how I did it 25 years ago. Lots of exercise.

Now, it has to be diet. We do a lot of construction on our house and rental units and it is convenient to just do fast food. My wife can't cook for s**t (sh!) so it's up to me to change our diets. :frustrated:

I could lose 30 lbs and feel a lot better.

I can never do diets. Just got to cut down the amount of what you are eating. But either way, you bring up a great point there, people wonder why our insurance rates keep sky rocketing....

I can't follow a prescribed diet but I can make life style changes like:

1. No more fast food burgers. Home for a sandwich or salad.
2. I have started eating an apple a day. We now eat fruit for snacks instead of chips, etc.
3. Smaller portions.
4. We eat meat but I try to find good quality (less fat) pieces.
5. Cutting back on white food (rice, bread, etc.).

So little changes will hopefully do the trick. It's mainly making a conscious effort to eat more vegetables and fruit.
