I have no idea what Tom is eluding to, but this comment caught my eye immediately and would love to know more:


... It is not recommended to learn how to rappel in your first canyon even though I personally know of one who did it. Enjoy your trip.

That comment goes back to my first canyoneering trip that I was invited on by Ice. When asked if I knew how to rappel I said no and he proceeded to teach me on the back of his pickup. Being a natural athelete, I picked up the important part, "NEVER LET GO OF YOUR BRAKE HAND"! We then proceeded to do Pine Creek and Keyhole on that July day back in 2005. And as Paul Harvey says, "Now you know the rest of the story".
