so i have no idea what i am doing but i was interested in getting into rafting. Nothing big just little stuff like the virgin or maybe the sevier river. I just wanted to know where i can go to see the rules on what rivers can be rafted down and can i raft down the virgin through the virging river gorge and stuff like that. oviusly the water is to low right now but in spring when there is good run off. Also i heard of some guys rafting down the Narrows in zion is this allowed or did they poach the canyon. thanks for the help.

Only in the spring when the flow is sustained over 150 cfs. Note this has been rated a class 3 river with major class 5 consequences and obstacles as several groups found out this spring. Recall reading a rescue has been estimated to take up to 3 days, even then it might not be possible.

I raft with a guy who was rescued from Zion Narrows, from all the rivers he has been on Narrows was one of the toughest ones for him. It's not a raftable river, but you can do it in an IK.

To get into rafting, your best bet is to join a local rafting group (mailing list or a website) and start asking questions. There is a utah rafting mailing list (very popular among river rats). You can subscribe it here:
