When I was a kid working in the fields, we always knew when it was lunchtime. The Concord would leave New York and would fly over Cape Breton at 12:22pm and it would make a VERY loud boom as it headed out over the ocean. "lunchtime!"

I like how you can see the conical shape in Scott's first pic. Really can visualize the the shock wave.

I remember as a kid in the later 60's and early 70's we would quite often here sonic booms around here. Don't think I have heard one in a long time.
