I just heard this.....

August 9, 2009 - Officials of the Bonneville Nationals Inc. report that Barry Bryant, 46, from Anderson, California, died competing at the speed trials on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

The accident occurred at 5:55 p.m. when his racing vehicle went out of control while traveling approximately 200 mph.

He was transported by ambulance off the race track to Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

Race Officials were informed that Bryant died before arriving at the Medical Center.

I took this pic of Barry on Saturday next to his #216 car. Barry's 34' Ford coupe with the stretched out nose was one of my favorites. The car was a work of art.

I now know the accident was on the long course @ the 5 mile mark.

wonder why he was transported by ambulance and not by a helicopter

I don't know the reason why a helicopter was not used this time, but it's usually because....

1. One was not available.
2. It's a long ways out and they will meet one at a mid-point.
3. They know the guy is not going to make it.
