we talking about the URL or theme?

did you design these themes? I can tell you that darker colors are sometimes a turn off to people.

are you using a CMS of some sort?

My thoughts:

#1. As soon as I arrive, I feel like I need to spend money - like a commercial storefront website. From poking around, I'm not sure if that's the feel you're aiming for, but correct me if I'm wrong.

#2. Better than #1, but doesn't have much contrast. It's kind of hard to read.

#3. Best in my opinion, but make the navigation banner bigger!

If you want visitors, make the interface stupid-proof. Make your point and make it big! People should understand the underlying goal of the site within the first 10 seconds of viewing. Maintain a good flow. Think about newspaper layouts with a Headline then a hook then the article - or a good photo with a bold focal point that fades into the subtleties. Here's an interesting article that goes into much more detail. (http://www.poynterextra.org/eyetrack2004/viewing.htm)

Nice work!

@above, I agree with all your opinions strongly. I kept the third one.
The first one did feel like a store which i am selling nothing.
Second was hard to read and pixeled.
Third was overall the best.
The third one is now at http://barrier.co.nr

I can't tell if your using a CMS or not but might I suggest Joomla.

it's alot easier then posting content by hand.. or with a homemade CMS like mine was.

there is a ton of joomla themes out there and most are easy to customize. if you can read php good.

no it's good and i also liked editing mine manually but when you start to post content everyday it gets a little tiring. I myself created my own CMS with an admin area. but it's just so much easier with a CMS like wordpress, joomla, or drupal. joomla make it easy to integrate a forum like SMF or phpbb into a website. with any of these CMS it makes SEO so much easier.

puting content in manually is the way of the past... but if you like to work with code so much like I do. you can move onto other things like makeing your own templates, plugins, mods, and componets.

the one you have now looks the best. whats your direction of your website? Is it more of a blog, community or both.

well you got a great idea... I think there is a market for your type of website.

1. get a .com domain
2. bring everything together into one website. so bring your photos, and forum into one website.
3. if you do want to do a blog/community they get joomla and SMF with the joomla-smf bridge

smf IMO is a little more complicated then phpbb but is more secure and less prone to spamming the phpbb.

I think you could build an awesome community based on rock art. I'm sure there is a ton of people with the same interest as yours.

I think you have established what it is your sharing with the world so now I think the question you have to awnser is.... what is going to keep people interested and coming back?

:lol8: I built my first website when I was 12 so.... 7 years ago. last year I finally got tired of dealing with my CMS and went to wordpress. i've helped manage the tech stuff at wildsurvive.com for the past 3 years. that uses an smf forum and joomla for the front page. and i'm in the process of setting up a new website but i'm keeping that a secret for now.

total money earned. $2.81 :roflol:

if you don't have patience, then your in trouble.
