the land of blood red rocks and whorish rivers that allow any tourist a visit while claiming to be a virgin.[/i]
An amusing - if slightly twisted - metaphor. I'll admit to loving every visit I've had with that tart.
Anyway - yes, it's a pet peeve of mine...

or the good ol' ZCMI?
i've thought that it's related to the common usage of possessives (like Trackrunner's place, or let's go to trackrunner's) which somehow strangely get applied to names we don't usually apply possessives to.
for example, i know a few people who say ... "let's go to Costco's"
regardless, it's odd and should be made fun of immediately upon use

I usually go to Arch National Park in Moabs, but I've been wanting to visit Bryce's Canyon this year too.

I heard Mark Koelbel on channel 2 news say, "Zion's" (referring to the park) last night. Asshat. :lol8:

I loaded up a bunch of pages in different tabs, and didn't know which topic this one was. I read Arch National Park, and was surprised at the gaffe, but then saw Moabs and Bryce's. Aha, the Zion's discussion! Nice!!!
According to our wedding cake, Abby and I got married in "Archer National Park."

Perhaps not so egregious is referring to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park as the Smokies. Either way, happy 75th anniversary.

I know this is going to sound all flaming and trolly, but it's not Great Smoky Mountain National Park; it's Great Smoky Mountains National Park
