I just bought an XSi, I was looking for a second battery and was wondering if buying batteries that are not from the manufacturer(Canon) are o.k.?
Any recommends?

Last July I picked up a non-canon battery for my XSi off Ebay for 10 bucks. 9 months later... the canon will last me about 3 days worth of heavy shooting and the non-canon last about one full day. Compared to the Canon that no name battery is a POS but still worth the 10 bucks.

Cold weather and long exposures will drain your battery big time. In cold weather I keep a hand warmer in my coat pocket with my extra battery and always travel with a DC/AC converter to recharge while in the car.

If you are really looking to extend the battery life you should pick a battery grip.

Thanks alot summit, I had no idea the batteries lasted so long.
Do you recommend filters to protect your lenses?
