Just go grab a Linksys router at Walmart for 50 bucks.

Will this be for a laptop, or are you putting a wireless card in your PC as well?

I think I have a card in the PC but I want it to have a hard line. I have a 50Mbs Internet connection that was cut in half the last time I hooked up a router.

Just buy a Linksys or DLink Wireless Router, run your ethernet straight from it to desktop and you're done. There should be no reason for speed loss through a router.

It might be a 54 MB per second connection, but keep in mind, you're probably only getting a 7 MB per second MAX connection speed with your ISP.

Unless you're doing some WLAN parties with gaming, or networking to your other home computers, you'll never use that full 54 MB per second.

This is exactly what I did last time and I ran internet speed test from two different websites both before and after. It showed that I was losing internet speed. That was about a year ago, maybe now I can get a faster router

I see your ISP is mstar, but what part of SLC do you get service?
And if you dont mind telling, how much do you pay a month for a fatty pipe like that?

Mostly porn. Mainly I use it just to brag on web forums like this. :haha:

In all seriousness I watched a PBS documentary that was about small municipalities building their own fiber-optic networks. The large telecommunication companies refused to build it so that they can gouge the public on their crappy phone and cable lines. There are about five or six companies that own over 85% of all phone, internet and cable networks in the country. So the banded together and promised congress that they would build fiber if they deregulated the industry. Instead they just charged more for the same copper-based technology. So small cities build them themselves and ran it like a utility rather than a strictly for profit venture.

About two months after seeing this doc a Mstar salesmen was at my door asking me if I wanted fiber. I was in the market for upgrading to faster internet. At the time I was paying $35 for a 1.5Mbps DSL from Qwest. They were offering 15Mbps for $40 with no commitment or installation costs. So I went for it. Six months later they started offering 50Mbps for $45 for a year. So I got it and now the one year introductory rate is gone.

So in answer to your question I just use it for downloading videos and music. I don

I guess I missed that post. But your internet speed is pretty impressive, too!
