Hello all,

I am going back to Goblin Valley with some friends for our annual trip.
This will be my third year.
I've done some hikes there, but not too much.
I've explored the crap out of the goblin park.
I've done Ding and Dang and little wild horse.
I've never done any other slot canyons, but I am addicted. Its too much fun than should be allowed.

I've seen on the map Chute canyon is near as well, but I dont know anyone that has been there.
I do not have any repelling experience so I would not be able to do the tough canyons.

Anyways, any recommendations for the area?
What is Chute canyon like? Do I need lessons and a good team before I try that one?

What about other places to go/see?

Thanks!
-Shane

hey shane,

chute is mediocre at best. but crack is fun and photogenic. they can be done as a loop if you are feeling really saucy.

zero g is also really good, though it is up the road a few miles. it is "technical" but it might be a good first technical canyon for you and a few friends. brush up on some rappelling skills, even though they aren't necessary, and you could have a real good time. the water can be cold though, and you will definitely need to work as a team to get down it.

shane has beta on his site at climb-utah.com

There's one down there called Crack Canyon, but I've got no idea what it's like.

Isn't Blue John down there too somewhere?

What is Chute canyon like?

As was said, lower Chute is marginal. Upper Chute/Baptist Draw is fantastic though and highly recommended though it is technical (but is considered and easy technical canyon). If you haven't rappelled, go with someone experienced.

Farsworth canyon is near Goblin Valley and is really nice in the lower end. Crack Canyon is "pretty good" and Temple Mountain is a fun climb, but exposed. Chute Butress is another cool little scramble.

If you think Ding, Dang, and Little Wild Horse are too much fun than should be allowed then we need to get you into some tech canyons. I'm sure many here would be willing to let you tag along on a trip. PM me if you are interested in jumping on one of my trips sometime.

Depends on your size... for small folks or highly skilled climbers it has no rappelling.... for bigger folks (180# and above?) with average climbing skills it has a very difficult rappel...

Thanks for all the tips and helpful websites.

I'll let you know what we decide to do.
Were going down May 5th - 10th
Should be great weather, not too hot, not too cold.

Lower Chute is pretty but not worth the time and Crack Canyon is one of the best in the area.

The Front (east) side of Wild Horse Creek has some shallow narrows that are pretty fun

Farnsworth is pretty awesome but short... well worth checking out.
