So sad! I wonder if she was wearing a helmet?

A Cincinnati woman died Sunday after she hit a tree while skiing with her children at The Canyons Resort for the closing day of the season.

Edda Gunning, 46, was skiing alongside the Painted Horse terrain park about noon when she hit a tree, said Summit County sheriff's Detective Ron Bridge.

"She was paralleling her children, trying to keep an eye on them," Bridge said.

She was unresponsive when medics arrived at the park, Bridge said. She was flown to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead about 1:30 p.m., Bridge said.

Officials at The Canyons could not be reached for comment.

Holy cow. That is so sad. I honestly don't really enjoy skiing, but I have always planned on skiing again at some point. I am now leaning towards never skiing again.

I am not against people skiing. If I loved it, I would still do it. I however am a great driver and I am a bad skier. So I feel pretty safe on the road (with respect to my own driving and am only worried about others), I feel just okay on the slopes.

I understand that you are a huge skier Summit, so let me clarify that I am not against people skiing! I am against me doing things that I don't really enjoy.

Oh my god those poor children! My heart goes out to them. What an awful thing for them to witness. Skiing along enjoying family time to have it end with mother dying.
