11.300 seems kinda high for so little snow. has it been a light snow year or is that normal for that area ?

scott, i still think you should write a book on 'how to get your small child to hike more than a mile'. :haha:

great report and more so, i am impressed with your son's ability to hike with dad and go the distance. :2thumbs:

It's pretty close to average.

Although it is true that New Mexico and most of Colorado get much less snow than say the Wasatch, the photos are somewhat decieving since much of the reason for the lack of snow on much of the upper slopes is that winds blow it off the open slopes. In the trees there was probably 3-5 feet of snow.
