There is a free windows mobile app that will allow you to tether your phone's internet connection to your laptop:

What are you looking to do? What is available to you will greatly depend on what you specifically require.

should work. as long as you have a clear view of the sky.

i have used sprint for satelite internet. just put a card in the slot and away you go.

so, i've looked a little deeper. for true mobility it looks like you will need a dish to have access everywhere.

Can't divulge all details right now, but my little project requires a solid internet connection basically anywhere.

I always assumed a clear view of the sky was all that was required also. Is a dish really necessary?

you can view porn with most internet ready cell phones. It would probably be easier to just be upfront with your wife instead of making these elaborate stories up and driving to the middle of the desert. :roflol:

If you have a satellite smart phone, then you should be able to get internet anywhere. I don't know what you have going on (obviously) but now I am super curious. I hope it goes well for you!

Rockgremlin,

I have a sat phone from globalstar. You can purchase a acc. cord or something to hook it to your laptop. But globalstar has been having sat problems now for about 3 years. Sat's out of orbit or some problem. So the reception right now is now reliable. You can make a phone call but keeping a long term connection is tough. Back before the sats went down you could talk forever with no interruption. Motorla has a system called Uridium but it is more $$$$$$. Globalstar I think charges to have a data connection but it can be done. On a positive note the rates are alot cheaper with globalstar while they are having this problem.

We all have pictures on our desktop of some beautiful outdoor location. But that picture is just a static image. Wouldn't it be cool if you could set up a webcam in a very remote hidden location that broadcasts live streaming video of that location. Kinda like a weather cam, but instead of looking at different towns, it overlooks whatever/wherever you point it. It would have to be housed in a clear plastic box to protect against the elements, and would have to be located somewhere that would be almost inaccessible to protect against vandalism or theft.

It might sound corny, but this app has thousands of uses if you could get it running.

But not protect against hiker porn

Like hiker porn. I think hiker porn is a great way to get this started. Porn sites were among the first to turn a profit. Hiker porn should turn a profit for your thing and provide the capital and cash flow to expan into other areas.

Yes and no.

Using a Sat Phone to do this is simply a nightmare.

I deploy BGANs on occasion.

They have limitations. What exactly do you want to do?

Watch Movies?
Or just email and a bit of web access?

check http://www.groundcontrol.com/BGAN.htm

I like the Hughes BTW, about 400Kb up and down reliably.

Thanks for the serious reply Redman. This is exactly what I was looking for....and predictably this type of technology is quite expensive! $17.00/minute to stream decent quality video. Youch!

It can still be profitable. See above posts about hiker porn for details.
